Cast iron cookware can start to rust

Cast iron cookware may start to rust if washed in a dishwasher, the rusty marks then spread onto other things being washed. For example the little cog found on your tin opener is cast iron as are some of the screws that fix the handles onto larger pans. It is better to wash these items by hand.
